This piece was written a couple years ago, and it was part of a larger essay that was ultimately left unfinished. The words kept calling to me, and I wanted to share it with others. To me, it felt like it needed to be read, heard, and seen by others. It is a powerful read.

For many Indigenous people, we have felt the effects, (whether it be direct or indirect) of the residential school system. Intergenerational trauma has taken its toll on our people. However, we have the ability to heal ourselves and our communities, if we reach out for guidance. We are inherently connected to our Creator through prayers, ceremonies, and traditional practices.

Indigenous Strong is a personal look into the road I've been down, especially as an alcoholic. The Sundance is a huge part in my recovery and it gave me a second chance at life, and it led me to my newfound purpose as a mother, and a business owner.
